Abhishek Ghosalkar, 41, who was shot dead on Thursday night in Borivali was a former Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) corporator from Shiv Sena UBT led by Uddhav Thackeray.
Abhishek was shot dead in Borivali on Thursday evening during a social media live, allegedly by his old rival Mauris Noronha, 49, who later shot himself fatally.
Ghosalkar, son of former Shiv Sena MLA from Dahisar Vinod Ghosalkar, was elected as a corporator in 2012 from Ward number 1 in the BMC.
After the split in the Sena, Ghosalkar decided to join with Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena.
A resident of Kandarpada area in Dahisar, Ghosalkar was a prominent youth leader of the Sena UBT from North Mumbai.
His alleged assailant, 49-year-old Mauris Noronha, is a businessman who resides in Borivali Noronha and allegedly had political ambitions.
He had earlier worked in Dubai and the United States and had set up a finance business in Borivali.
Noronha who describes himself as a “philanthropist” and “social worker” was also keen on contesting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.
Mauris had gained substantial press coverage for his social work during the pandemic and was felicitated by the then Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari as a Covid warrior.
In 2022, he was arrested by the MHB Colony police for allegedly blackmailing, raping, cheating and threatening a 48-year-old homemaker of Rs 88 lakh since 2014.
As per the primary information, Noronha opened fire at Ghosalkar over their personal enmity. However, the two were reportedly at odds over Noronha’s political ambitions.
