While bureaucracy is a hallmark of most governments, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is on a mission to prove otherwise.
In a recent announcement the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced a landmark new initiative that aims to increase the efficiency of government departments by eliminating needless procedures.
Zero bureaucracy
The ruler of Dubai took to social media to announce the new initiative which is called the ‘Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme’.
Sheikh Mohammed said, “We launched a new programme to end government bureaucracy, whereby government agencies will work to cancel 2,000 government procedures within a year.
The programme will also work to reduce the duration of government services by 50 per cent and re-engineer hundreds of government services.”
The programme is incentive based with an award of Dhs1m for the team that excels in removing unnecessary bureaucratic procedures.

The ruler added that the aim of the new programme is to “To ease people’s lives, and provide them with world-class government services that they deserve in the UAE. Our goal is to be the world’s best government in providing services,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
The drive was launched in the presence of 30 federal agencies to encourage them to develop simple, efficient and effective government procedures.
