The United States and Ukraine have reportedly agreed on the terms of a draft minerals deal over natural resources and reconstruction, according to a Ukrainian official as Kyiv pushes to gain Washington’s support as American President Donald Trump is seeking to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
In an interaction with reporters, Trump said that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to visit Washington DC and sign a “very big deal” on Friday.
This comes after both the leaders exchanged hostile words online last week as US officials met their Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia.
According to a source quoted by CNN, the terms of the mineral deal between US and Ukraine was agreed after “everything unacceptable was taken out of the text and it is now more clearly spelt out how this agreement will contribute to Ukraine’s security and peace.”
President Trump was asked by the reporters what would Ukraine get in exchange for the minerals deal, he responded saying “The right to fight on.”
Trump continued, “They’re very brave but without the United States and its money and its military equipment, this war would have been over in a very short period of time.”
