UAE, China to boost comprehensive strategic partnership

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks on September 12 in Abu Dhabi, at Qasr Al Watan.

The leaders explored ways to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and China.

The discussions covered economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two nations, state news agency WAM reported.

Premier Li conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping, expressing his best wishes for the UAE’s continued progress and the strengthening of bilateral ties.

Both leaders underscored the importance of expanding collaboration in trade, renewable energy, technology, and culture, with a particular focus on mutual development strategies.

The UAE is China’s largest Arab trading partner, while China holds the position of the UAE’s top trading partner, with non-oil trade between the two countries reaching Dhs296bn in 2023.

The talks also emphasised the UAE’s role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, leveraging its strategic location and advanced infrastructure to contribute to global connectivity.

China’s Premier meets with Sheikh Mohammed

In other news, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, met with Premier Li at Za’abeel Palace in Dubai.

Their discussions centred on the growing strategic partnership between the two nations, exploring further avenues for cooperation.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the UAE’s commitment to fostering new opportunities in sectors such as trade, tourism, and technology, WAM stated.

The visit marks another significant step in the 40-year diplomatic relationship between the UAE and China, reinforcing their long-term commitment to peace, development, and mutual prosperity.
