A Gurgaon court on Saturday granted bail to Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner and YouTuber Elvish Yadav in an assault case against fellow YouTuber Sagar Thakur alias Maxtern, said police. Yadav was asked to furnish a bail bond for his release.
The Court of Duty Magistrate granted bail to Yadav as the punishment for offences against him pertains to below seven years, said police.
Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Harsh Kumar had earlier ordered Yadav to appear before the court on March 27 in connection with the assault case. The Noida Police, however, produced Yadav before the Gurgaon court on Saturday, and then their Gurgaon counterparts were called in.
“Though we sought judicial custody for 14 days, the bail was granted… After he was produced before the Gurgaon court, police interrogated him in connection with the assault case before his production to the court,” said police.
On March 8, Thakur had filed an assault complaint against Yadav. According to police, Yadav had called Thakur to Southpoint Mall on Golf Course Road to talk; and a purported video of the incident shows Yadav beating up the victim inside a room as the former greets him. Following this, Thakur fell to the ground and Yadav and his associates could be seen assaulting him.
In another video posted by Thakur on X, he claimed that he had gone to Gurgaon alone to meet Yadav, who along with his friends, assaulted and threatened to kill him. He suffered injuries in the mouth following this, said Thakur. Based on a complaint by Thakur, an FIR was registered against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (police to prevent cognisable offences), 323 (procedure when, after commencement of inquiry or trial, Magistrate finds case should be committed), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) at the Gurgaon Sector 53 police station.
Meanwhile, a Gautam Budhdha Nagar court on Friday granted Yadav bail in connection with a case in which he and five Delhi residents are accused of allegedly selling snake venom at rave parties in the National Capital Region, said police.
