In an official announcement, the UAE government has confirmed the Eid Al Fitr 2024 holiday schedule for private sector employees across the nation.

Depending on the Moon sighting, workers will either be off Monday, April 8 to Friday, April 13 or Monday, April 8 to Thursday, April 2.

Eid al Fitr holiday

According to the announcement on Twitter, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has sanctioned a generous paid Eid al Fitr holiday for all private sector employees, commencing from Monday, April 8, which corresponds to Ramadan 29.

However, the break will be until Shawwal 3 and the corresponding date on the Gregorian calendar. This date is yet to confirmed.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that Monday, 29 Ramadan (8 April 2024) to 3 Shawwal (or what is equivalent to it in Gregorian calendar) will be a paid holiday for all employees in the private sector across the UAE on the occasion of Eid Al…

This will only be confirmed after the sighting of the Moon at the end of the month of Ramadan.

Eid Al Fitr dates: What to expect

As per the Islamic calendar, the duration of the month of Ramadan varies depending on the sighting of the Moon, which ultimately determines the length of the holiday to mark Eid al Fitr.

Here’s a breakdown of how the holiday will unfold in both scenarios:

If Ramadan Lasts 30 Days:

  • The Eid break is expected to begin from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) and continue until Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3).
  • Including the preceding and succeeding Saturday-Sunday weekends, residents can enjoy a total of nine days off.
  • The extended break spans from Saturday, April 6, to Sunday, April 14.

If Ramadan Lasts 29 Days:

  • In this scenario, the Eid break will commence from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) and conclude on Thursday, April 11.
  • Including the weekend prior to the break, residents can relish a total of six days off.
  • The shorter break period runs from Saturday, April 6, to Thursday, April 11.

Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, holds significant cultural and religious importance for Muslims worldwide.

Private sector holiday

The UAE government has mandated an equal number of public holidays for both – federal and private sector employees.

With the official holiday dates now confirmed, workers and residents across the country can eagerly anticipate a well-deserved break before returning to work on April 15, 2024.
