The police on Friday arrested a coaching class owner-cum-teacher in the western suburbs for allegedly molesting a junior college student for over three months.
Police are now checking if the accused person also targeted other students. The 31-year-old accused is a teacher of Biology and runs a coaching class in the western suburbs.
The 16-year-old student takes coaching for Class 11 and 12 in the accused’s classes.
According to the police, as per the girl’s complaint, between December 2023 and March 2024 the accused, who is an Andheri resident, had been stalking her on Instagram. He then started chatting with her on Instagram.
“The teacher allegedly molested the girl on a number of occasions when there was no one around in the class,” a police officer said.
The teenager finally told her parents about it. Based on the girl’s mother’s complaint the police on Friday registered an FIR and summoned the accused to the police station, where he was questioned and arrested.
The accused has been charged under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354(A) (unwelcome and explicit sexual behavior) and 354(D) (stalking) of IPC, sections 8, 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 67 of Information Technology Act.
