Al Majasimi-Al Wasl Road upgrade to ease traffic

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the installation of a new signalised junction at the intersection of Al Majasimi Street and Al Wasl Road, significantly improving traffic flow and travel times in the area.

The project is part of the RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan 2024.

The plan aims to continuously upgrade the road network, ease traffic flow, increase road capacity, and improve safety standards across the emirate.

RTA’s enhancement of both roads involved…

The installation of traffic signals to optimise traffic flow and enable smoother movement of vehicles.

A key improvement was the widening of Al Majasimi Street from one lane to two lanes in each direction over a 200-metre stretch leading up to the intersection. This has doubled the road’s capacity, increasing the number of vehicles it can accommodate from 1,200 to 2,400 per hour in each direction.

Improvement to ease traffic on Al Wasl Road

The creation of a new traffic stream via a signalised junction now allows for left turns directly from Al Majasimi Street onto Al Wasl Road. This eliminates the need for drivers to make a right turn onto Umm Suqeim Street followed by a U-turn on Al Wasl Road, significantly reducing traffic congestion at the intersection.

These improvements have resulted in a notable reduction in travel time from Umm Suqeim 3 northward to Al Wasl Road.

The previous journey of three minutes is now cut down to just 30 seconds. This improved traffic flow benefits residents, visitors to nearby shops, and students travelling to schools in the vicinity.
