Ludhiana Zone circle head of RBO1-SBI Manish Kumar on Friday held a meeting to address the issue of Rs 1.82 lakh crore-worth unclaimed assets lying dormant with various financial institutions and regulators under a three-month nationwide “Your Money, Your Right” awareness campaign on unclaimed assets in the financial sector of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Union Ministry of Finance.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Jeevandeep Singh, explained the practical methods available to the public for claiming unclaimed funds and urged people to spread awareness within their families and communities. “Many people may have old documents or papers that can help them recover their rightful money,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of Re-KYC (regular updating of Know Your Customer details) and nominations on bank accounts to prevent complications in deceased claims.
The campaigh (October-December) — launched in coordination with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAID), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEP-FA) — aims to empower citizens by guiding them on how to search for their unclaimed assets, update their records with financial institutions and complete the claim procedures.
