Aadhaar Card Mandatory Biometric Update 2025: Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identifying number assigned to Indian residents. It serves as a crucial identity card, providing access to government services and executing financial transactions securely.
Linking Aadhaar and biometrics and updating details timely is a crucial step that one must follow to not only comply with government regulations and policies but to prevent duplication and enhance security and accuracy, as well.
What is the Aadhaar biometric?
Aadhaar biometrics refers to an individual’s unique physical and behavioural features that are captured and retained in the Aadhaar database controlled by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
What are the methods of Aadhaar biometrics?
i Fingerprint Data: Aadhaar scans the fingerprint patterns from all 10 fingers in the enrolment procedure, capturing the distinct ridges and swirls. It is used for authentication and is considered a crucial factor in determining an individual’s identification.
ii. Iris Scan Data: The Aadhaar enrolment process also involves taking an iris scan of both eyes, capturing a high-resolution image of the iris, the coloured portion of the eye. It is useful for improving identification accuracy, particularly in situations when fingerprint scans may be difficult due to factors such as age, manual labour, or certain medical conditions.
When should the mandatory biometric update be carried out?
1. All biometric information (photo, fingerprints, and both iris) will be recorded once the child turns five. At this point, the infant would undergo a de-duplication. The original Aadhaar number will be kept, and this request will be handled similarly to a new enrolment request.
