Masdar, Bapco to develop wind energy projects in Bahrain

Masdar has teamed up with state-owned Bapco Energies to boost wind energy development in Bahrain.

The collaboration represents a strategic move by Masdar to extend its clean energy footprint into Bahrain and support the nation’s ambitious goals for decarbonisation and achieving net-zero emissions.

Masdar brings to the table a wealth of experience in delivering wind projects worldwide, including the largest wind farm in the Middle East, the Dumat Al Jandal wind farm in Saudi Arabia, and the London Array offshore wind project in the UK.

The joint venture between the UAE-based company and Bapco aims to explore, develop and invest in wind projects in Bahrain, with a capacity of up to 2 gigawatts (GW).

These projects will encompass both near-shore and offshore wind farms, marking the first of its kind in the region and the Middle East.

Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies, highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration in realising Bahrain’s National Energy Strategy and advancing towards its net-zero goals. ”

Masdar shows support for Bahrain’s decarbonisation goals

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, emphasised the company’s dedication to supporting Bahrain in achieving its net-zero ambitions.

Through initiatives like the joint venture with Bapco Energies, the clean energy company aims to not only contribute to the UAE Consensus goal of tripling global renewables capacity by the end of the decade but also emerge as a leading producer of green hydrogen by 2030.
