UNCTAD marks 60th anniversary with rebranding

Commemorating its 60th anniversary, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) announced a historic milestone as it unveiled its new identity as ‘UN Trade and Development’ on April 9.

The strategic rebranding of UNCTAD signifies the organisation’s dedication to achieving greater impact, accompanied by a clearer visual identity aimed at better reflecting its work and values on a global scale, particularly in advocating for developing countries.

Under the leadership of Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, UN Trade and Development has been proactive in navigating the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving global trade landscape, including the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and climate change.

From UNCTAD to UN Trade and Development

The rebranding marks the first-ever comprehensive review of the organisation’s global communication strategy.

The forward-thinking approach aims to enhance communication efforts and effectively convey the organisation’s mission and values to a wider audience.

During the presentation of the organisation’s new brand as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, Grynspan emphasised the importance of visible, transformational change.

She highlighted UN Trade and Development’s commitment to embracing a forward-looking approach, building upon its legacy while addressing the complexities of the modern global economy.

Grynspan reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to ensuring that development remains at the core of global economic decisions, with a strong emphasis on amplifying the voices of developing countries.

The adoption of the new name and logo across all official channels, in the six UN languages, marks a significant step for UN Trade and Development, representing its first rebranding in 60 years.

Global Leaders Forum

To kick off its 60th anniversary celebrations, UN Trade and Development will host the Global Leaders Forum from June 12-14 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The event will be inaugurated by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN Trade and Development Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, bringing together heads of state and government, civil society organisations, private sector representatives, and leading economists.

Under the theme “Charting a New Development Course in a Changing World,” the forum will highlight the organisation’s integrated approach to trade and development, focusing on finance, technology, investment, and sustainable development, with a specific emphasis on the needs of developing countries.

The Global Leaders Forum will serve as a platform to explore innovative approaches and pioneering solutions alongside the world’s top policymakers and thinkers.
