Over 2m high waves, rough seas to hit coast of Oman

Rough seas and high waves are set to hit the coast of Oman on Wednesday evening, according to a latest update from the country’s meteorology service.

The weather warning comes amid forecasters predicting rain and high winds for Oman from 28 February to 1 March.

Meanwhile, the Oman Meteorology service is warning seafarers and fishermen to be careful of the changing conditions.

“Sea waves will rise on the coasts of Musandam Governorate and the coasts of the Sea of Oman, starting on the evening of Wednesday, February 28, with the sea being moderate/rough waves (2.0-2.5) metres, coinciding with the activity of northwesterly winds, until Friday, March 1. Please check the sea state before venturing and practising marine activities,” said Oman Meteorology in a statement.

Weather forecasters are further predicting scattered rainfall, across Oman, from Wednesday impacting Al Buraimi , Al Dhahirah , and North Al Batinah and even reaching the likes of Muscat.

Inclement conditions from Oman to the UAE

Oman’s latest weather update comes after the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) earlier this week issued a weather forecast indicating that partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected across the country from 28 February to 1 March.

Light to moderate rainfall in general and heavy at times is expected in the Northern, Eastern, and Southern regions of the country, NCM reported.

The UAE will be affected by a surface low-pressure system from the Southwest and an extension of an upper-air low-pressure system, accompanied by a western Jetstream with different amounts of clouds flowing from the West at intervals.
