A senior geologist with the Department of Mines and Geology was found allegedly murdered at her residence in south Bengaluru on Sunday, officials said.
The police have identified the victim as Prathima K S, 43, a resident of Doddakallasandra in Subramanyapura police limits, who was found lying dead on the floor with her throat slit. They are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime.
The incident came to light around 8.30 am when the neighbours alerted the police.
“Prima facie, no valuables have been missing from her house. But we need to confirm it,” said an officer, adding that Prathima’s husband was in Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district at the time of the incident.

Initial probe has revealed that Prathima was in the office till 6 pm on Saturday and returned home by 8 pm. “Her car driver confirmed about dropping her. The murder took place between 8 pm and 8 am on Sunday,” he said.
Prathima lived in a double-storey independent house located next to Gokul Apartment and worked in VV Towers, the police said.
The police have registered a murder case and begun an investigation.
