Affordable fuel, especially gasoline and diesel, is essential for maintaining the sustainability and efficiency of industry, transportation, and agricultural operations.

According to recent reports in Nigeria’s refining industry, the continent may be headed toward more stable and affordable petroleum prices.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reported a significant milestone, exceeding Nigeria’s domestic fuel demand with a combined daily output of 70 million liters of gasoline and diesel (45 million liters of gasoline and 25 million liters of diesel).

This accomplishment shows how large-scale domestic refining can lessen dependency on imported fuel, which frequently causes price instability.

Beyond Dangote, a global oil group has pledged more than $50 billion to build a 1,471-hectare free trade zone and a 500,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Ondo State.

When finished, this plant will rank as Africa’s second-largest refinery, greatly enhancing regional petroleum security and the continent’s refining capability.

Benefits from lower fuel prices in Africa would be extensive lower transportation costs for shipping fleets, trucks, and buses, all of which are necessary for transporting people and products.

Reasonably priced fuel lowers the cost of products and services by keeping transportation expenses under control.

Another advantage includes cheaper manufacturing and industrial operations.

Lower fuel prices directly boost the competitiveness and profit margins of industries that depend on diesel-powered generators and machinery.

An important lesson for Africa can be seen in Nigeria’s growing refining capacity: one of the best ways to maintain price stability and guarantee energy security is to invest in domestic fuel production.

The continent may witness a new era of reduced gasoline prices, more economic resilience, and better growth prospects for both people and businesses as Nigeria continues to expand its domestic output.

With that said, here are the African countries with the lowest fuel prices currently, as per Global Petrolprices.

Compared to the list last month, when the global average price of petrol in Africa was 1.29 U.S. dollars per liter, the same as this month, fuel prices for Libya, Ethiopia, Tunisia, and Niger reduced slightly.

In contrast, fuel prices for Egypt, Nigeria, and Liberia increased marginally.

Fuel prices for Angola, Algeria, and Sudan remained the same
