Indian Railways blanket service: The Ministry of Railways has launched a pilot initiative to provide covered blankets for passengers travelling in AC coaches. The move aims to enhance hygiene and ensure a safer, cleaner and more comfortable travel experience.
Covered blankets in trains
This has been a long-pending demand from passengers, as blankets provided in trains are not washed after every journey like bed sheets or pillow covers. They are cleaned only once or twice a month. To address this hygiene concern and ensure comfortable usage, Railways has introduced covers for each blanket.
At present, the covered blanket has been introduced in one train on a pilot basis. In the coming days, the initiative is expected to be extended to other trains.
On Thursday, Railway Minister launched the new practice of printed blanket covers in all AC classes of Jaipur–Asarva Express.

In a statement, the national transporter said: “To further improve passenger comfort, the Railway Minister launched the new practice of printed blanket covers in all AC classes of Jaipur–Asarva Express, promoting hygiene, uniformity and better onboard experience.”
Railway infrastructure in Rajasthan
In the Union Budget 2025–26, Rs 9,960 crore has been allocated for railway infrastructure works in Rajasthan. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 85 stations are being redeveloped. Out of these 8 have already been inaugurated this year. The state now operates 12 Vande Bharat services, providing faster, safer, and more comfortable travel across major routes.
“Railway development is progressing on multiple fronts—introduction of new types of trains, construction of new stations, laying of new tracks, completion of electrification, and creation of modern maintenance depots. However, the main focus remains bringing a meaningful transformation in the lives of passengers,” Vaishnaw said.
