Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team had earlier requested an extension for the court fee submission deadline after a discrepancy was reported in the lawsuit filed against the late actor Kim Sae Ron’s family and YouTube channel Garosero, along with its hosts, alleging defamation. However, earlier reports confirmed that he missed the deadline, which led to rumours of financial strain. This was followed by reports suggesting that the lawsuit might be dismissed. But now, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team has released a statement firmly denying any late payments, claiming that everything has been paid in full and they are proceeding with the lawsuit as planned.

Kim Soo Hyun dismisses claims of financial strain
“We paid all the necessary court fees and delivery charges. It is not true that we failed to pay the lawsuit fees,” Soo Hyun’s legal firm, LKB & Partners, released a statement via YTN Star. The company revealed the reason behind the deadline extension, saying, “ The request to extend the correction deadline was made to fix the defendant’s address, not because of unpaid fees.”
Soo Hyun’s legal troubles began when rumours started circulating about his relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron. Later, the YouTube channel GaroSero and Sae Ron’s family accused the Queen of Tears star of being romantically involved with the Bloodhounds star when she was a minor, causing a huge stir online. The actor then organised a press conference to refute the claims, strongly denying the allegations and insisting that he only had a brief romantic involvement with Kim Sae Ron once she turned adult. To protect his image, his agency announced plans to file a defamation lawsuit —12 billion KRW (about 8.16 million USD).

The legal hiccups
On April 17, reports from the Seoul Central District Court revealed that there was an issue with the documents Kim Soo Hyun’s team submitted. The legal team had originally claimed 12 billion KRW in damages, but the court had only registered 11 billion KRW (around 7.77 million USD). The court asked them to fix the discrepancy and resubmit the file while making the necessary adjustments to the fees. The court fees are generally based on the amount being claimed, and in Soo Hyun’s case, they were estimated to be around 38 million KRW (roughly 26,700 USD).
The team was given a week to resubmit, but instead, they requested an extension on the very last day of the original deadline—April 16. Had the court rejected the extension request, the lawsuit could have been dismissed. Legal experts speculated that the delay might have been a strategic move to rethink their legal approach. Soon, the news added to the already ongoing speculation about the Gold Medalist running dry amid the controversies, with an insider weighing in on the situation, followed by reports that they had to suspend contracts with external cleaning companies, indicating just how tight things are.
