As it stands South Africa’s Johann Rupert is Africa’s richest man but barely. In August he ousted Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote twice to become the continent’s richest man.

Johanna Rupert and Dangote currently have the same net worth of $13.3 billion, with Johann being ranked the 159th richest person and Dangote filling the 161st spot.

Dangote’s last change in valuation came in at -$31.0M, while his year-to-date (YTD) change is -$1.82B billion. For Joahnna Rupert, his last change in valuation is -$114M, while his year-to-date (YTD) change stands at +$902M.

As recently as a few days back, Johann Rupert was firmly in the spot of Africa’s richest man with a net worth almost a billion dollars more than Dangote.

But within the same time frame, Dangote’s net worth has come to mirror Johann’s, not because of Dangote’s ascension but because of Johann’s decline.

One month back and forth between Johann and Dangote

Late in August, Johann Rupert, with a net worth of $13.9 billion, a last change in valuation reading +$322 million and his year-to-date (YTD) at +$1.51 billion, was ranked the 1533rd richest person.

Dangote on the other hand boasted a net worth of $13.4 billion a last change in valuation of -$527 million and a year-to-date (YTD) -$1.71 billion, which put him at the 161st position on Bloomberg’s Billionaire list.

Johann’s net worth would eventually climb to $14.2 billion compared to Dangote’s $13.4 billion. However, the South African billionaire for the last week has experienced a steady decline, eventually leading to a drop of almost $1 billion. Dangote on the other hand fell from $13.4 billion to now $13.3 billion.

Later Dangote would regain his title as Africa’s richest man, but it wouldn’t last long.
