The effects are felt everywhere, from transportation and food prices to manufacturing expenses and government budgets.

Egypt’s latest fuel price increase could end up exemplifying this rising concern.

Midway into October, as seen on APNews, Egypt’s government raised the price of 92-octane gasoline from 17.25 pounds ($0.36) to 19.25 pounds ($0.40), and the price of 95-octane gasoline from 19 pounds ($0.40) to 21 pounds ($0.44).

The country has been battling rising inflation rates as it deals with mounting daily expenses that hit yet its peak last year.

These included a decline in the value of the Egyptian pound relative to other currencies, an increase in fuel prices, and an increase in subway fares.

The cost of energy significantly contributed to this economic strain, highlighting how important it is for the government to manage fuel prices.

Egypt, like many other African countries, struggles to balance budgetary responsibility and social welfare. Cutting fuel subsidies helps to balance the budget, but it also risks increasing poverty.

The situation is comparable to Nigeria’s post-subsidy troubles and Kenya’s fuel-linked inflation, demonstrating how energy costs impact broader economic realities across the continent.

With that said, here are the African countries with the highest fuel prices in November 2025, as per data from Global PetrolPrices.

The global average fuel price remained constant at $1.29 per liter, a figure consistent with the previous month; however, only the Ivory Coast and Uganda experienced a fuel price decline.

In contrast, fuel prices for Malawi, the Central African Republic, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Seychelles increased marginally.

Kenya’s fuel price remained the same.
