TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwan’s Ministry of Financial Affairs stated on Sunday it has acquired requests by diplomatic channels to assist ease a scarcity of chips for the auto sector and that it has requested native tech companies to supply “full help”.

Automakers world wide are shutting meeting traces due to a world scarcity of semiconductors that in some circumstances has been exacerbated by the previous Trump administration’s actions towards key Chinese language chip factories, in line with business officers.

The scarcity has affected Ford Motor Co, Subaru Corp, Toyota Motor Corp, Volkswagen, Nissan Motor Co Ltd, Fiat Chrysler Vehicles and different automotive makers.

The federal government in Taiwan, residence to the world’s largest contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), stated it has been contacted by overseas governments about the issue.

“For the reason that finish of final 12 months, diplomatic channels have certainly acquired requests from related nations because of the scarcity of automotive chips,” the Ministry of Financial Affairs stated, after media reviews that German Financial system Minister Peter Altmaier had written to Taiwan’s authorities about the issue.

The ministry stated it had not but acquired the letter from Germany and could not touch upon its contents.

The ministry stated main worldwide automakers aren’t direct clients of Taiwanese semiconductor chip makers, however that different automotive chip makers place orders with Taiwan producers and promote them to automotive makers.

“The related provide and demand state of affairs can be carefully associated to the plans of automotive chip factories to scale back stock in the course of the low season,” the ministry stated.

It stated it had begun talks with home chip suppliers in response to requests from different nations and “requested the chip producers to supply full help”.

TSMC, in a press release, stated the difficulty of chips shortages for auto corporations was essential to them.

“It’s our high precedence, and TSMC is working carefully with our automotive clients to resolve the capability help points,” it stated.
