As Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored that Parliament does not need drama but delivery, Opposition parties Monday hit out at him, asking the BJP to “end the drama of distraction and engage in debate on the real issues”.
Reacting to Modi’s remarks, Congress chief and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that on the first day of the Winter Session, instead of addressing the key issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has once again delivered his dramabazi”.
“The reality is that the government has been trampling parliamentary decorum and the parliamentary system for the past 11 years, and the long list of such instances is well-known,” said Kharge.
He said booth-level officers have been dying due to the workload during the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. The Opposition wants to prioritise issues such as “vote theft” and will raise them in Parliament, said Kharge.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said: “The biggest drama queen here is the one talking about drama.”
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said: “Everyone knows who creates drama. People are losing their lives, BLOs have died — is this drama? The BJP uses police and guns to stop voters. Such wordplay should be avoided.”
TMC Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee asked if the Opposition demanding a discussion on SIR is “drama”.

“What Opposition is asking is a debate on SIR. Is it a drama? If raising people’s voice is drama, then people will give them a reply in the next election,” said Banerjee.
“Forty people, including BLOs, died. They have blamed the ECI. Where is the accountability from the government?” asked the TMC MP.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Anil Desai said that Modi should look within the BJP too. “The Prime Minister’s statements, if they are constructive, are welcome. But if they are sarcastic, then the person making such comments should also engage in introspection,” he said.
