BEIJING (Reuters) -China condemned on Tuesday a cellphone name between Czech President-elect Petr Pavel and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen, saying he ignored Beijing’s repeated makes an attempt at dissuasion.
Monday’s name was a diplomatic breakthrough for the China-claimed island, which has no formal relations with Prague.
“Czech President-elect Pavel ignored China’s repeated makes an attempt to dissuade him and our repeated representations,” Chinese language overseas ministry spokesperson Mao Ning Mao advised reporters.
“He has endured in stepping on China’s crimson line, significantly interfering in China’s home affairs and hurting the emotions of the Chinese language folks.”
Beijing views any official exchanges with Taiwan as an affront to its sovereignty. It repeatedly criticises visits by overseas lawmakers to the island, however a name between a head of state and Tsai is seen as graver.
“Earlier than his election, Pavel publicly acknowledged that the ‘one China’ precept must be revered, but now he has gone again on his phrases,” Mao stated.
