Bond merchants, in the meantime, will receive an extra few hours of holiday, because the Securities Trade and Monetary Markets Affiliation recommends an “early” shut at 2 p.m. Japanese Time on Friday. Bond buying and selling will then be closed for the vacation on Monday, July 4.

The vacation falls simply after the top of what has been a brutal first half of the 12 months for inventory and bond markets. The S&P 500 logged its worst first-half efficiency in 52 years, while the Nasdaq Composite has seen its worst first-half performance on record.
